BIT Inspections

 

All commercial vehicles registered and operating intrastate, or within California, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more are required under the Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) Program to undergo a bumper-to-bumper safety inspection, or BIT Inspection, every 90 days.

 

This covers all motor vehicles and trailers as well as any other vehicle that transports or conveys hazardous materials, regardless of gross vehicle weight.

 

DOT Inspection

All commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more that are registered and operated both inside and outside of California (in the Interstate category) must undergo a bumper-to-bumper safety inspection, or DOT Inspection, at least once every 365 days, according to the DOT Inspection Program.
